Amanda Kopp (b. 1989, Long Island, New York) is an abstract painter whose work explores the dynamic relationships between repetition, color, and movement. With a deep focus on process, Kopp’s artistic practice invites viewers to experience the meditative qualities of her technique and the complexity of visual rhythm.
Kopp received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, where she specialized in painting and installation. During her time at SVA, she studied under influential artists such as Lynda Benglis, Jack Whitten, Andrea Belag, and Leigh Behnke, whose mentorship shaped her understanding of abstraction and expression.
Over the past decade, Kopp has developed a body of work titled Content & Controlled, which spans both works on paper and canvas. Her artistic approach breaks away from conventional methods, as she eschews the traditional paintbrush in favor of a rubber roller to create her compositions. The pressure applied to the roller—varying with each gesture—creates intricate, layered patterns that are both controlled and intuitive. This technique results in unique textures and forms that evoke a sense of fluidity and rhythm, inviting viewers into a deeply meditative experience.
The works in Content & Controlled reflect Kopp’s interest in how repetitive actions can influence perception and create a quiet, contemplative space. Through color, form, and texture, she fosters an immersive environment where subtle changes in pressure and rhythm build toward a sense of visual harmony.
Kopp has exhibited widely, with 27 group exhibitions and 3 solo shows, including at Trestle Art Space (Brooklyn, 2021) and Roots (Brooklyn, 2022). She continues to explore new directions in her practice while staying deeply connected to the New York-area art community.
Originally from Long Island, Kopp lived and worked in Manhattan for 15 years before relocating to Montclair, New Jersey, where she currently resides. In addition to her studio practice, Kopp works on the sales team at Pace Gallery in New York, one of the world’s leading contemporary art galleries, and serves on the Exhibition Committee at Studio Montclair, a non-profit art organization dedicated to supporting artists and art education.
Kopp’s work continues to be driven by her exploration of abstract form, and her engagement with both the technical and emotional aspects of creation remains a constant thread throughout her artistic career.
